Fifty years and more ago my friends and I used to run down this street on our way to Central from The Mine: run because we felt, with some reason, this was a dangerous place, apart from a desire to make it in time to catch the 3.25 to The Shire — which we sometimes did! No trees then, as I recall, and there was a very different smell…
